For over fifteen years, Kara has worked to address racial and social inequities of community food systems through the tools of planning, policy, research and assessments, partnership convening and program development. Since 2016 she has overseen the development of the Food Innovation Network (FIN), a community-based initiative in South King County, Washington. FIN’s core program includes a food business incubator focused on helping immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs launch and find financial stability for their families.
